Hi,
What determines the speed of SATA vs SATA 150 and SATA II? I know you must have the proper drive but does the SATA connector on the mobo have to support each version and if so can you run a SATA 150 on just a regular SATA port, but take the performance hit? I'm curious because my mobo has just regular SATA ports and all you can buy is SATA 150 and SATA II. TIA

The SATA controller on your mobo is ancient and only supports SATA-100

Hi, ror_b211 I know it will only support SATA 100, I just want to know if I can use a SATA 150 drive on it as that's all you can buy, I know I won't get 150 performance. And by the way it isn't for the PC in my signature, it's for a Shuttle AB60R mobo with an Intel 865 chipset, and older board but a lot newer than mine.

The native ICH controller on a 865 board is SATA 150. Most addon chips such as Promise are 133. You will never notice the difference.

Thanks glc, then I guess it's safe to get the SATA 150 drive, I'm still not sure I'm even going to use this board, but now I can rule out the hard drive problem.
