I got new hard drive(Maxtor 80GB). My old hard drive only 30GB. After installed new hard drive then run the software of that . I choose the new hard drive like boost drive (main hard drive), because I want a big GB to work on my video files .But it come out instated of 80GB(one is 39GB,one is 40GB).The 39 GB call local C drive as main hard drive and the 40GB call G drive as additional har drive. My computer run windows XP pro with SP2.
Can you please tell me how to get one main hard drive have 80 GB. |

The boot drive is the one with the OS installed on it. It would also have to be the master drive on the primary IDE channel.
What are the system specs and what software did you use to install and configure it? Do you have the WinXP Pro installation CD? Cricket

What are the system specs?
How old is the computer? Are you using 40 wire IDE cables? Or are you using 80 wire IDE cables? If it's 80 wire IDE cables the drives should be jumpered to CS (cable select). Cricket

This is one of my system spec have relate to that: TWO ULTRA DMA-33/66 IDE PORTS:Two independent channels for four IDE devices; supports up to PIO mode 4 and Ultra DMA 33/66. Two PCI bus mastering ATA E-IDE ports. I used the 40-pin Ultra ATA cable included from new hard drive. I know about older systems that not support Ultra ATA/66 or are dated prior to November 1998 may not be able to use the cable select jumper option. Thanks a lot for your helping. |

from what it seems, you created only a single partition using half the size of the drive...

You might want to start over and just use the WinXP Pro CD to partition and format the drive instead of using MaxBlast. Cricket

also forgot, those drives also have a capacity limiter jumper on it, make sure you didn't jumper on that also.
