Point of a DVD R+/- burner

what are purposes of DVD Burners. i know that you can back up more data, but what other purpose is there. is it possible to copy a dvd on the fly, what other purpose is there. i have never used one before thats why i am just wondering

To burn DVDs CD burners are technically not capable of burning DVDs.

Besides burning data DVDs that hold more, you can create Video DVDs to watch in your DVD player. The DVD Video format is superior to VCD or SVCD, and you can only create them with a DVD burner.
