I need some help with a computer im building. The motherboard i have chosen is the ASUS K8V SE Deluxe and i chose the Athlon 64 3400+ for my processor. The only problem is when i turn it on it the post code tells me that "The system has failed cpu self test." I looked at the ASUS website and it says that the BIOS support that processor but on my research online says that in order to get it to work i must flash the bios with the update. That really sucks because i do not have another 754 processor to hook up into it. If there is any suggestions please let me know. you can email at scarruth2@yahoo.com

Hi scarruth23,
Welcome to PC Mechanic !! ![]() As long as the "Speech Reporter" has been out, it still doesn't seem quite ready for prime time. Even on my personnal builds, it usually tells me I don't even have a CPU installed, or have some other non-existant problem. I always recommend turning it off. The main question I have here, though, is does the system actually boot up? When I checked Asus' site , it stated that the 3400+ is supported by all K8V SE Deluxe mobos. See screenshot below: |

I agree with two rails. Whenever i update my bios , i get system failed due to cpu fan not installed , even tho its on there whirring away. disable the speech reporter in bios .

It wont boot
It doesnt get past the CPU test. I turn it on and everything comes on but it never puts anything on my display. Im about ready to break down and buy a new cpu and try that out. That was the last thing i wanted to do but i think that i just got a bad CPU. It didnt come in it orginal package when i got it. I bought it from Tiger Direct as an OEM.

I have to ask this - did you install a heatsink/fan? OEM processors don't come with one.
