Question Very Confused

I need some help with a computer im building. The motherboard i have chosen is the ASUS K8V SE Deluxe and i chose the Athlon 64 3400+ for my processor. The only problem is when i turn it on it the post code tells me that "The system has failed cpu self test." I looked at the ASUS website and it says that the BIOS support that processor but on my research online says that in order to get it to work i must flash the bios with the update. That really sucks because i do not have another 754 processor to hook up into it. If there is any suggestions please let me know. you can email at scarruth2@yahoo.com

Hi scarruth23,

Welcome to PC Mechanic !!

As long as the "Speech Reporter" has been out, it still doesn't seem quite ready for prime time. Even on my personnal builds, it usually tells me I don't even have a CPU installed, or have some other non-existant problem. I always recommend turning it off.

The main question I have here, though, is does the system actually boot up? When I checked Asus' site , it stated that the 3400+ is supported by all K8V SE Deluxe mobos. See screenshot below:

I agree with two rails. Whenever i update my bios , i get system failed due to cpu fan not installed , even tho its on there whirring away. disable the speech reporter in bios .

It wont boot

It doesnt get past the CPU test. I turn it on and everything comes on but it never puts anything on my display. Im about ready to break down and buy a new cpu and try that out. That was the last thing i wanted to do but i think that i just got a bad CPU. It didnt come in it orginal package when i got it. I bought it from Tiger Direct as an OEM.

I have to ask this - did you install a heatsink/fan? OEM processors don't come with one.
