Case/Motherboard fittings

Hi everyone,

May seem like a silly question but is there a certain type of case I should be looking for depending on my motherboard or are they universal (usually).

For example, my brother would quite like to recase his machine and he currently has an MSI 6777 motherboard however, i'm unsure as to what type of case he would need.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

Matching a case to a motherboard depends on what form factor each follows. An ATX motherboard will fit in a ATX case. A micro-ATX motherboard will fit in a micro-ATX or ATX case. Most modern motherboards follow the ATX standard. But if you have a name brand computer they tend to use proprietary parts and off the shelf parts don't usually fit.

Brilliant, thanks for the quick response. One further question though, the website detailing the specification of my mobo states that it's 'mATX Form Factor' - one would assume this means micro?

Yes, that's a micro-ATX motherboard. It'll fit in a standard ATX case or a micro-ATX case.
