im looking to upgrade the amount of ram in my server. right now i have 2 sticks of 256 ddr2 400mhz pc 3200 of ram. im looking to purchase a gig of ram (2 sticks of 512) now i went to dells website and searched for the correct ram that fits in my system. the results show two different types of ram:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...mension%204700 my system is a dimension 4700, i have several questions. first, can my system handle the 533mhz ram? if it can can i still keep my old ram in the system which runs at 400mhz or would it cause conflicts and pc instability? would it be better if i go with the gig of ram that runs at 400mhz and still keep my old ram in the system that also runs at 400mhz, so i would have a total of 1.5gigs of ram?

Instead of buying the RAM from DELL, go to Crucial.com and use the memory configurator. It'll tell you which RAM works with your computer/server.

did that, they recommend the pc 4200. now can i still use the pc 3200 ram in the other two memory slots? will that cause any problems or will all the ram only run at the slower 400mhz speed?

If you click on the "all compatible upgrades" tab, they list both speeds. Match it up with what you have to be safe.
