My mouse isnt working, both of them.
I need to use the mouse click in the little hole that I agree, it cant be done with the keypad. I checked the connections and everything is fine, maybe something in BIOS? I checked BIOS and I cant figure it out there as well, what do I have to do to get this mouse going?? |

Is it PS2 or USB? If USB, you must enable it in the bios otherwise it should load the standard PS2 mouse driver when you reboot. You can go back into bios and see if it could be disabled somewhere.

OK, if you got it going you can load Windows. I know it may seem frustrating at times on your first build but it'll be worth it.

Sounds like you have a disk for an upgrade. You must have a full version disk to load Windows initially. If it's an upgrade disk it won't load unless you can show that you have a previous version.

Look on the package or the disk and if it says upgrade on it, you won't be able to load it unless you have a previous full version disk. If you have any other copy of Windows, you can put it in and show where it is (the path or drive) and it will then install.

Did you end up buying a Windows 98se update because it was cheaper? If so you must have a copy of Windows 95 or 98 first edition to install it. You shouldn't have to load it but just show that you have it by directing it to the CDROM with it in the tray. That way it knows you are qualified to use the upgrade disk.
I don't know what the stuff on your screen means as I never saw it before even though I have used the upgrade disks. |

I don't think you'll be able to copy from your other PC. You don't have a Windows disk that came with it? You need to get your hands on a copy of Windows 95, 98 or 98se even if you borrow it. If not you'll need to buy the full version.

If you have a burner, you might try to copy the Windows folder to a CD and see if it will accept it to let you load the upgrade disk. If it won't you'll have to get a copy.
If you must buy it, try to repackage the upgrade and return it to get the full version at the store where you bought it. If they give you a hassle just show them how similar the packages look and they may let you swap and pay the difference. If they won't let you swap then go buy from another store and tell them where they can kiss. Last edited by Smoke24; 06-08-2001 at 01:27 PM. |

OK, if the LED's aren't working just find the right connector at the mobo and flip them around. They are polarity sensitive.

Hi,
Double check all your connections. More than likely all the speakers plug into the subwoofer, and then the subwoofer has a powercord to be plugged in, and then more cords that go into the end of the soundcard. Hope this helps. |

The speakers were bad, I brought them back and they tested them too, so I got new ones, not as good but decent since they didnt have any of the other ones left.
Sound card went in well, I did test and were ok now I have to put the CD writer in and the network card, for some reason i think I am going to have more problems. |

Both of those installations should be real easy. I would say you can do both at once and when you reboot it should automatically install the driver for the burner and once it gets into Windows it may already have the driver for the net card. If not it still should be simple. I think you're home free.
Now to configure it to go online and install all your software. |

Looks like you did it, wasn't all that bad was it? You can take a lot of pride in having not taken the easy way out and buying a Dell or Gateway. Looks like you may need to do a little tweaking on the video setting and maybe the monitor and you'll be all set. Good job!
You'll need to find all your setting for your internet connection, cable I presume and set it up to get online. I noticed this makes me a Grand in posts, hope some of them helped some folks out and weren't just a bunch of BS. |

WOW! 142 relies to this thread! Is this some kind of record?
Hi Tarmenion, Looks like you're almost there...just a little further and you'll be done. You'll have the satisfaction of knowing you built it yourself and you'll have gained all this new knowledge. But watch out...putting PC's together is addicting. Aren't the guys on this forum the greatest! They're the reason I visit this forum everyday (I mostly just lurk for information). They are the most well mannered, mature and helpful bunch out there. I visit a few other forums, but this one is my favorite. I just completed a Pentium !!! 1 Gig box recently and can say that coming here really help me prepare for that project. Sorry I'm not offering any help here, I just wanted to comment on the number of replies and to tell you you're in good hands here. Cricket |

It may not be my place to say so Cricket but thanks for the complements about our forum. We try to be helpful and courteous to all that visit. That's why I came here and stayed around so long, these are super people. I visit some of the other forums at times but they tend to be full of a lot of chit chat stuff while here it is more to the point of helping folks with their problems.
