Unhappy Computer won't shut off or run

I have an emachine model 2042. I unplugged it and put it asidefor a week because I bought another computer, today I connected everything and powered it up . Without even pressing the on switch everytime I pluged the power cord to the electrical outlet the power would come on instantly but all it would do is make a clicking noise and the small indicator light on the front that shows that it's "on" would blink off and on. I would press the power switch to turn it off but nothing would happen. The only way to turn the power off is to unplug it and like I said as soon as I plug it in the outlet it starts making clicking noise's with the indicator light flashing. Also the monitor won't come on and the CD and DVD drives won't open either. I am at a complete loss because before I unplugged it for a week everything worked perfectly. I appreciate any suggestions.

Sounds like a dead power supply or hard drive from your description. Do you have another computer available so you can install the hard drive in it as a slave and run diagnostics on it?

Hold the power button in for at least 5 seconds and release it. It may be stuck in standby mode.
