Weird fluctuating CPU temp
G'day
My CPU Temperature fluctuates between 3 Deg C. to 128 Deg C. in a mater of seconds, according to Everest. I opened the case and touched the heatdink on the CPU and it was cold (I would say about 15 Deg C), The air coming out of the heatsink was also cold. Should I ignore this? I don't think the temp would ever get down to 3 Deg C. on the CPU. I kept my fingers on the heatsink for a long time while watching the changes on Everest and did not notice any change in temperature to the touch. Reports attached Thank you John |

Check your temps in the bios, everest is reporting your temps wrong. You wouldent have a cpu at 128c.

There is something definitely wrong with the monitoring software. Like FLG said, you can NEVER have a working CPU at temps of 128°C.
At maybe 85C?? your CPU becomes permanently damaged. Before it hits this kind of temperature, it would shut the computer down automatically.

Go into BIOS and check the readings. That's usually most accurate. Or try SpeedFan out and see what temps it reads.

Thank you guys. I tryed Speed Fan. It also shows weird temps fluctuations. Fan 3, for instance, -117C, then, 114C, then, -114C, then, -4C, -124C, 110C. Fan 1 fluctuates between 5C and 62C. All over within those temps. It also shows 2813 RPM, Fan 2 and 3 show no revs PM. There is only fan on the CPU installed. Do I need To install any Touch Sensor on the CPU or the CPU has its oun internal sensor? It is impossible that the CPU or any other component would reach bellow freezing temperature. Not in Australia.  What would be fan2 and fan3 for.  Thank you all John Edit The BIOS won't show revs nor temps. Even when I enable it, a Buzzer goes on and I have to disable it again, but no temp nor revs. Last edited by jollyjohn; 07-11-2005 at 09:18 AM. |

Are you sure the monitoring wires inside your case are plugged in correctly and to the proper destination?

The monitoring wires might be hidden from sight. My board has 3 temp sensors but I don't have access to any of them.
Umm... I think that there might be something wrong with the sensors themselves. I plugged in a thermocouple into my multimeter the other day and the temps were fluctuation wildly. I straightened out the wire and the readout stabilized a bit. So maybe something is pressing on the internal sensors or interfering with them. |
