Power supply problem..i think
Hello everyone, I am very new to computer stuff, and learn by trial and error now for my story..I ordered a New power supply, and geforce 6600 gt card I hook up the power supply..the light for my tower comes on but i get nothing
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=541439 thats the link for the power supply incase you had questions about my power supply specs. I tried several things I hooked up the new card and power supply then i got nothing then i put my old card geforce 4 in with the new power supply..got nothing..put all my old stuff in everything is working fine..but i noticed that there are more wires for this new power supply, and i was soo hoping i am just hooking up somthing wrong, now i followed my old power supplys hook up when i put the new one in one plug going into the cd drive the hard drive one into the new graphics card and hooked up my secondary fan..i was told this should be enough power, and i shouldent have a problem..this is also the link for my motherboard http://www.asrock.com/product/product_k7vt6.htm I was also thinking maby it's too much wattage for my mother board? If someone can help me i would love to find out what i am doing wrong..

for starters that psu is not reliable and should be replaced i also did not look at the specs but is ur graphics card a AGP or PCI-E? if its PCI-E make sure ur psu has a PCI-E connector and also make sure it is atx vrs 2.0 wich means that the power connector that goes into the mobo is 24 pin instead of 20.

I'd return it to the place you bought it and get a replacement. Sounds like it's DOA.

I'd return it for a refund if you can and order a new one from Newegg. They are a much better vendor than TigerDirect.

It would be easier to get a replacement from Tigerdirect, call them, get a rma and ship it back, they'll send you a new one.

The problem is that it's not a reliable unit. I would at least try to get a different brand as a replacement.

actually
Actually the unit is fine..it's too much wattage for my board thats why it wont work..i dident think you could have too much wattage but i put my geforce 6600 in with the 300 watt power supply for now..should be fine till i can buy a 350 watt

No. If the PSU has a wattage rating that's higher than what your motherboard needs, it will kick back and pump out the amount of power that the motherboard needs.

There is no such thing as too much wattage. If the other power supply works than the Diablo is faulty. I would get a good quality 350+ watt as soon as you can. 300w is cutting it close especially if it's not a good quality brand. Read through the Power Supply Reference Guide and the Power Supply FAQ and choose a good brand. THIS Thermaltake is a good deal.
You should send the Diablo back to TigerDirect for a refund. |

If you ship it back for a refund, you'll have to pay a restock fee,if the power supply is faulty, get an rma from tigerdirect and tell them to ship this power supply instead.

A load will draw as much current as the inverse of the resistance. You can't have too much capability. You can have too much voltage though. But a good PSU will provide a stable voltage until you are drawing too many amps. Then a good one will shut itself down rather than letting the voltage drop too much. It's just a waste of money to have a PSU that has a far greater capability than what is necssary.
