Internal DVD ROM Drive to external Drive?

I was able to replace my old dvd rom drive with a new dvd burner. Is it possible to use my internal dvd rom drive as an external drive with usb cable? TIA.

ps. My pc has only 2 bays so new dvd burner & cd burner are staying.

Yes..that is possible using an enclosure such as the ones found here. Just keep in mind that when there is a disk spinning in the drive, you should never ever move it! I speak from experience.

You will have more versatility if you leave the DVD reader internal and put the CD burner in an external enclosure. The DVD burner can burn CD's, and it can be handy having an external CD burner.

Thank you for your info, guys. I have more questions regarding enclosures. Does it matter if I chose any brand, or do I have to find a match for my drive?

ps. I think I'm gonna follow glc's advice and put dvd rom drive back and remove cd-rw drive.

All the case seemed to be 'enclosed' and without any opening. Will one side open up for the cd-rw drive tray to slide in and out?
