How many case fans do you have installed in the case?

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

Not a home build but a shop built it for me, not a name brand

If you are running Windows XP, may want to increase the ram to 512m. If you have a problem with the CPU heatsink fan, check with the shop that built it for a replacement.

Also, I think you're walking on the edge there with 230W of power - can you be more specific? Can you read the label on the power supply box and give us the brand name and check the wattage? Two HDDs and a Pentium 4 - 230W is definately questionable.

its an advantage 300w, its not been a problem until there was a pop and something broke inside, cleaning the fan has worked a bit as it was freezing all the time, for things that use a lot of power it just overheats and freezes so i was goin to add another fan to cool it down at least 10 or 20 degrees

You heard a pop from the power supply? A capacitor blew. You need to replace the current power supply with a new one.

51C for a 2.0GHz Pentium 4? Wow, that's sort of high.

When you said something popped, do you know if the retention ring around the CPU broke? Or did one of the plastic pins holding the retention ring to the motherboard broke? If anything having to do with holding the heatsink broke you're going to have to fix it or replace it.

when i checked in the case i found a small sort or triangular plastic bit that had came of something, iv tried takin everything out but the bottom left screw on the motherboard is in to tight and is awkward because of the case and i dont want to damage it, do you think the new fan idea would make any difference id like to try that first beofre anything else

Do you mean add another fan to the case? I don't think that's going to cure the problem. If the heatsink retention bracket or any part of the fan bracket broke you're going to have to replace it or the temps will never be under control because the heatsink isn't making full contact with the CPU heatspreader. If the retention bracket broke, contact the motherboard maker for a new bracket. If the fan bracket is the part that broke, contact Intel for a new one. You gotta find out what broke.

And you're just going to have to take a chance on that screw holding the motherboard down.

EVEREST isn't the most accurate temperature sensing program - the best out there is your BIOS.
