ASUS DVD combo drive problem

I have ASUS DVD/Cd combo drive. i use Nero 5 to write CDs. The drive is writing data and verifying data and doing everyhing fine but after writing when i c the cd i can not c the data. so when i c the data in the disc info option of the software it shows all the sessions that i have written to be open. and when i try to close the session nothing happens. the session still remains open. i can close the same sessions in a different writer and then i can read all the data.
but at the same time when i use a cd RW it works fine.
i have tried to reinstall nero but in vain.
is this a harware problem?
please share ur experience if any to work out a solution

I had a similar problem with my DVD burner once. I found the solution was to upgrade the firmware, at the factory they flashed the wrong model firmware to the drive.

Upgrading the firmware is a good idea as is updating Nero. Check Nero's site for updates if you haven't already.

where do i get this firmware. can i do it all by myself. well the firmware ver is 1.3 and if the cd writer worked fine earlier with the same combinations then i guess the firmware can not be a problem. can antivirus or antispyware create such a problem

Try the ASUS in another computer. If it doesn't work there, it's gone bad.
