Smile Will I be better off without a CPU vent?

I built two computers to crunch BOINC. I used AMD Athlon 64 2800+ and Gigabyte K8NS pro motherboards for both of them and the main difference between them is the cases.

Adam has a CODEGEN 6049-C10 MID TOWER 300W ATX GRAY. This case has a cpu vent that fits over the cpu. It has two fans on the side and one on the back. Sometimes the air from the side fans feels warm to me.

Benjamin has a big red Ultra Dragon gamer case with a clear side. It had a big rebate and was on sale. I have one fan (in) at the front on the bottom and a a second (out) at the top on the back. There is one side outtake fan and the air from that feels cool to me.

I wanted your opinions on taking that vent off Adam and putting another fan near the front for intake. Won't the cpu work better with more air moving around it instead of just relying on the cpu fan to pull the heat off through that vent?

Thanks in advance for your help. Don't know if this matters, but Adam has a 300W ps and Benjamin has a 400W ps.

Don't compare the cases by the amount of heat coming out of the vents. The two cases are just too different from one another for any comparison to be made. What you're witnessing means nothing.

You really should have the side fans as intakes, not exhausts.

Basic case cooling set up is the fans in the front are intakes, the rears are exhaust, the side are intakes and the top (if any) is exhaust.

One important thing you may want to do ASAP is to replace the Codegen power supply with something better. Those Codegen PSUs are not very good quality and if it decides to die on you it could take the rest of your computer with it.

Thanks for your advice, Al and Cricket. I have turned the side case fans around so they are intakes now. I will look into a replacement power supply.
