Computer turn off after sometime that computer has been turn on.

I really estrange problem with my computer, When I turn on my computer, everything works fine, Bios just beep one time, all programs runs ok, apparently there is no problem, computer can work fine for 1 , 4, 7 or 10 hours, and then it goes turn off, other time after 15 minutes that has been turn on computer turn off.
Other symptom that I saw, it is when I insert a CD on the cd drive, it happened again, (turn off). I was guessing that was a problem with some soft, but did not confirm still. I will a restore point to to the computer to see if it resolves the problem

I hope that somebody can provide any ideas about this problem


When the problem started: Mon ( July 25 05).
Technical Specification of Computer:


Processor: Athlon 64 2800
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology
Ram : 1 GB
Video : AGP Video Card
Operating System : Windows XP SP2

Check your PSU voltages, my Dad's PC had a similar problem and it was because the 5v Rail was on something like 5.8v and it was forcing the comp to shutdown (dunno why it shut down rather than just went off or blew up). New PSU sorted out the problem.

Also you may have a virus. Do you have proper Anti-Virus? And Firewall or are you using the windows Firewall that comes with XP SP2 (Its rubbish).

I Really apreciate your comments

Ok, I am going to take in considerations your recomendations. I Norton Antivirus 2005 and I have outpost firewall as Firewall. I will re-scan my system to see if could be a virus.


Any other recomendation will be take in consideration.
