new dvd burner problem, PLEASE HELP!!

ok, so i just bought an NEC ND-3540A dvd burner... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152047
--specs there...

so it is pretty much capable of burning everything dvd/cd wise out on the market today... and so i installed it into my computer, used the jumpers and set it as the master, my other dvd rom is set as slave... its and IDE..

problem time--- i am using nero 6.0... and i can burn cds in no time with no problems at all... and then i put in a dvd to burn and i get an error message "you can only use-- dvd-r/rw, dvd+r/rw, dvd-dl, dvd+dl" (or soemthing along those lines)... and i have tried a blank Dvd+R, then that didn't work so i took it back, and got a Dvd+rw, and i STILL get the same error message......!?!?

if this helps--
i have a p4 3ghz, 512 ram, winxp home.... yea i doubt you need anymore specs

PLEASE HELP ME, I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVERRRRRRRRRR

Sounds like it's defective. Contact the vendor for an RMA and send it back for a replacement.

You may need to update your Nero to at least 6.3, if not 6.6.

Send a message via ICQ to RJ
The only thing I can think of right now is that the drive doesn't support your DVDs. Try updating the firmware, and see if it then supports the DVDs.

This may sound silly, but try a diffrent burning program. I read on here that its the software that makes a dvd burner work, not the burner itself.
