I have my hard drive partioned into C:,D:,E:,F:. I have win 2000 on the C partition and some backups on my F partition, D has other things E at present is empty. My question is I have since loading windows and putting it all on decided I needed the win 98 windows to run a scanner I have so now I would like to put it on but from what I understand win 98 has to be put on the C partition so my question is their anyway I can send or put my win2000 on another partition without deleting or formatting and redoing it all over again . Would appreciate someones help on this. Thanks so much

The best way to create a multi-boot system is to install the oldest OS first. In this case, 98 should be installed first then 2K. By default, 98 would be on C: and 2K would be on D:

I think the above is used when you have two hard drives I only have the one hard drive and it is partitioned. What I did do though was uninstall win 2000 on the C but still have a win 2000 on the D partition I thought I could install win 98 on the C partition but apparently not without losing all my data on all the other partitions so now I have an empty C: partition. Is there any way I can keep my win 2000 on D partition and my other information on the other partitions and still install windows 98 on the C: drive. It takes so long to install and load everything again I hate to have to do it if their is another way.

The only way to install 98 now on the C partition is if it's FAT32. If it's NTFS, you are going to have to start over, unless Partition Magic can successfully convert C to FAT32, which is a 50-50 proposition. If you succeed in doing this and get 98 installed, you would then have to do a repair reinstall of 2000 to put in the bootloader and repoint things to the right places. The safest thing to do is back up your data and start over with a clean drive, installing 98 on a FAT32 partition first, then install 2000 on another partition.

Just to back glc up, I wouldn't suggest changing the drive from NTFS to FAT, usually even if it works, it will screw up the entire partition (or in extreme cases the entire drive) and you will have to redo everything.

I kind of thought that was my only option just needed it confirmed. Not a big deal I guess as I have everything pretty well backed up anyway just the reloading that takes the time but won`t hurt me either. Thanks for advice and help

I understand you and would try to help you. Recently I had a problem similar to yours, which I resolved with Partition Expert (part of Acronis Disk Director Suite). After install partition manager, don't forget to activate OS Selector. Check in Partition Expert: what is your disk "E", if it's logical, you have to convert it to primary. Then using Partition Expert, reformat NTFS partition "E" to FAT32. To be on the safe side, copy distributive files of Disk Direct on partition "E". Then switch partition "E" to active (in Partition Expert). And start installing win98: by floppy or by CD, as you wish. After that install Disk Direct on win98 and you'll be able to choose OS, which you want to use. But note! In win98 you couldn't see partition "C" with Win 2000, as partition "C" will be your past "E" and other NTFS partitions too.
