HDD failure
I have a Toshiba laptop A30 with a 60G HDD. I dropped the laptop.
The HDD seems to be affected and I can't boot from the HDD. When I attempt to boot from the Windows CD I get the error message that Windows can't partition the drive. So I came to the conclusion that the HDD is done. Now is there a way to retrieve the data from that HDD? Is there a software that can retrieve the data from a broken HDD or am I out of luck?

Recovering data from a broken hard drive is an expensive proposition. glc has posted the name of his preferred vendor for this type of recovery but prices start at $1000 and go UP! You might get lucky and find that attaching it to a desktop machine with an adapter may allow access. Not being able to boot may be a different problem altogether.

Thanks for the info. The data on it isn't worth $1,000 that's for sure.
