RAID doesn't work
So I have a 36 gig Raptor and two 300 gig DiamondMax 10 drives. I am trying to set up RAID 0. I had originally set it up through Windows, but performance was terrible, so I took the following steps. (Note: the drives seem to work fine, I just can't get RAID to work at all outside of Windows-based.)
Formatted and deleted the array in disk management. Went into BIOS and enabled the drives for RAID. Opened RAID utility, configured array for striping, cleaned disks, saved changes. Opened BIOS again as per mobo manual. The "Silicon Image Controller" section does not exist. Went into Windows, drives are still two drives in disk management. Tried to open "Silicon Image Array Management Software" in Windows. Does not exist. Tried to re-install RAID drivers from Asus CD - Windows says the drivers are unsigned, then it says install failed. Tried both Asus and Silicon Image download and support sites, nothing helpful. I've noticed since building that my BIOS had far fewer options than listen in the manual, but this is out of control. All I want is to set up some RAID. Can I download something to do this or will I need to contact Asus directly? The only reason I haven't is that every single forum on their site says that their tech support is horrendous and they don't know anything and didn't solve any problems. Help! I've followed the manual to the letter except for the parts that simply do not exist or work. Thanks. Edit: Another note...there is an exclamation point in the device manager under the SCSI/RAID Controllers section, in addition to the Silicon Image controller. I tried to update the driver, assuming it would be on the CD, but I just get a driver out of a Windows directory for "nVidia nForce RAID Class Controller". When I try to install it, it claims that it's not signed and then prompts me for the "SRCDATA" CD. I don't know if this is relevant, but it obviously could be. You have 2 separate controllers - the Nvidia and the Sil. You have to be mindful which ports are for which, the motherboard manual will tell you.

Yes, I formatted them twice.
I am using the controllers properly in theory according to the motherboard manual. |

I managed, with difficulty, to get the nVIDIA RAID drivers installed, so both controllers are installed now. However, the NVRAID utility doesn't recognize the drives still.

Okay, after 12 hours, I got it to work. It turned out to be a combination of problems. I just have one more question...when I initialize the disks in disk management, it comes up as a dynamic simple volume, whereas the Raptor and my external are both basic partitions. Is this a problem or normal?

The RAID 5's I administer are basic. You should be able to convert it back to basic, but you will lose any data that you have on it.

If it's showing up as 2 disks in disk management, the hardware raid isn't configured.

No, it's one "disk." What's the deal with basic/dynamic?
