On my home built box, I installed a Sony D22A DVD burner/CD reader plus a Sony CRX320E CD burner/DVD reader. The DVD burner is master on the secondary IDE and the CD burner is the slave. The CD burner works fine, burns CDs and reads DVDs. The DVD burner will only read CDs; it will not read or write DVD.
Per an earlier thread, I updated the firmware (BYS3) for the DVD burner, an OEM that is apparently really a Lite On SOHW-1633S, with no visable difference in performance. The driver comes straight out of Windows XP Pro SP2. It looks like it recognizes the player correctly but could this be the problem? That the driver is only recognizing the CD play capability and not the DVD burn or DVD play? Are there 3rd party drivers available? I can't get anything out of Sony because it is an OEM nor can I get anything out of LiteOn because it is a Sony. They both tell me to go to the "computer manufacturer" but that's me! /ASUS P4P800SE /Intel P4 3.0GHz wHT/ Corsair 4x512MB/ C: Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 (SATA1)/ D: Seagate ST3250 (SATA2)/ E: Sony DVD RW D22A/ F: Sony CRX320E Last edited by crabsteen; 08-10-2005 at 05:16 PM. Sounds a bit harsh, but see if you can exchange it for a real Lite-On. I think it's defective, not a driver issue.
