Trying to co0nnect an Epson 1250: Win XP

I was using an Epson 12560 Photo under Win 98 SE.

I then moved to XP Home SP2.

The CD that came with the 1250 was no good, as it was for Win 98.

So I downloaded the driver V5.71 and tried to install.

The install says it has finished, but then Win still "finds new hardware".
Apparently this bit is a known problem.

However, I was advised to let the Win process run through, and it should work.

I had done that, trying Automatic, Manual, Have Disk etc.

Every time, Windows said that inf files did not contain the right information, even when I guided it to the Folder that had the installed INF files and all the dlls.

I even tried manually installing all of the inf files.

I also tried disabling all firewall, registry guard, and Virus resident stuff. I even tried bootkng up without startup items so they wer not installed.

Same proces every time. No go.

Does anyone have any ideas, please?
