2nd drive missing
Sony VAIO system with XP, SP2 with all updates. 1st drive is 120Gb Maxtor with two partitions. 2nd Drive is 160Gb Maxtor with four partitions. Both drives are NTFS. 2nd drive is no longer visible in explorer or in disk management. The drive is visible in BIOS and under device manager, however, under device manager, no partitions are visible and it shows not to be loaded. The 2nd drive was added 8-9 months ago and has worked fine. The 120 GB drive replaced the original disk about 4 months ago. Again, everything was working fine until 2nd drive failed to show up in explorer.
Any ideas on how to correct this problem? Thanks, |

Try a different 80 wire IDE cable first.

Thanks, I'll try that this evening. I'm able to recover at least some of the files using data recovery software so I'm going to get those copied before I do anything else.
I did load up Maxtor's software and it immediately noted that the registry needed to be changed in order for the system to recognize the drive because it was over 137Gb. I did allow that but didn't do anything else pending the recovery of the files. |
