SATA HDD seems to have stopped me raising FSB

Hi all....

Heres the problem im having at the moment... i wonder if anyone else has come across this before...

My maxtor ide (ata133) hdd died and the shop were kind enough to replace it but got the wrong drive for me somehow (samsung spinpoint sata)... luckily my mobo supports SATA so i was really happy as i saw this as a free upgrade..

However.. i used to be able to get my Athlon xp 2400 (2.0ghz) to what i thought was an amazing 2.35ghz and stable as anything too, BUT since putting in the SATA drive i can get 2.13ghz (stable) and anything more causes lockups especially when i try to either connect to my dial up connection or open windows media player..

The only thing that has changed is the HDD, and i am running a fresh install of xp with the bare minimum drivers and services and still this does not help me increase the fsb above 143mhz ..

Hopefully someone could point me in the direction of anything i can try to at least squeeze a little more from what i have..

Also.. i have tried 2 sticks of ram and even tried higher voltages for both CPU and Ram than i used before but with no luck unfortunately..

Thanx in advance guys...

Common problem when oc'ing native SATA. Using a PCI/SATA controller card should allow the oc since you can lock the PCI frequency. An added expense but the only way I know of to work around the problem.

I haven't used any myself but Promise brand controller cards are some of the best. Here's several to choose from.

does your SATA have an onboard controller or is it native to the chipset? if its native to the chipset it should lock along with the PCI clock. the onboard controllers on the other hand, like Promise and SIlicon Image, wont lock when you implement the PCI lock.
