Problem with CPU fan

I went to install a new cpu fan today
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...19#DetailSpecs

And everytime I hook it up, my computer throws a double beep siren at me and shuts off but contiunes to beep until I unplug the pc. But if I hook up my old fan, it runs fine. My setup is below. I am guessing I am overloading the psu maybe or the motherboard (even though the only connector that goes from the cpu fan to the motherboard is the rpm connector, the rest goes to the power supply). And it throws this 9.F code at me on my Uguru (abit thing). Any ideas on how to fix this? I have a OCZ 470W powerstream psu.

Oh and as far as other fans go, I have 7 80mm fans, one of them a (Tornado) fan other than the cpu fan.

I think you're getting the alarm because the Panaflo isn't a 3 wire fan (with RPM sensor wire)...it's just a 2 wire fan (power and ground). The motherboard senses the CPU fan by the RPM sensor wire and it thinks there's no fan or the fan is dead because it's sensing 0 RPMs. You gotta use a 3 wire fan with RPM sensor.

I had it connected to a wire that goes to the rpm sensor on the board and also to the power supply. So I had the rpm sensor hooked up cause it works with my other 120mm fan too.

But does the Panaflo fan itself have 3 wires on it...red, black, yellow? My Panaflo fans are all 2 wire fans with no RPM sensor wire (and I have 8 Panaflo 80mm fans installed in my various computers). If your Panaflo only has 2 wires it doesn't have an RPM sensor built in and your motherboard can't get a RPM signal from it.

ahhhh, that would make sense than! So I can just turn that option off when my computer is running and things should be good? (I still have it set to either shut down or beep if the cpu gets to a certain temp)

I would get a different fan. That rpm snesor can be the difference between sweet gaming rig and a smoking pile of junk. Without it sensing rpm's should that fan quite your computer won't get the message to kill power from the power supply. Then bye-bye gaming rig. Just do yourself a favor and get a 3 wire fan.

actually it would. The cpu, sys and the pws all have temp sensors and when they go above a certain temp, the motherboard beeps, if it goes even more than the pc will shut down. So I should still be good.

Can't you boot the PC with the old fan, go into the BIOS and disable 'Shutdown when CPU fan fail' or whatever? Then stick the new one in, and it should ignore the fact that it can't sensor the RPM (although you'll have no protection if it does actually fail).

I would agree disable the alarm for fan and leave the temp warnings enabled.
