Sony DVD-Recorder DVD playback problems

I bought a Sony DVD-Recorder (the kind that connects to your TV) and copied a few TV programmes last night.
When I put the DVD into my PC and try to play the disc using PowerDVD I get the message "DVD-Video playback graph building failed".

When I first put the disc in my DVD-ROM drive, my computer thinks it's a blank disc.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Is it possibly something to do with the DVD not having been finalised yet?

TIA.

P.S. The DVD plays back ok on my Sony DVD-Recorder.

Yes. DVD-ROM drives can't read an unfinalized DVD.

A DVD burner does. Dunno if it reads unfinalized DVDs made by a standalone DVD recorder, but you can try.
