HP Printer Not Printing....

I have an HP Deskjet 3650 connected to my system via USB. I tried to print out my registration receipts for a new game I installed the other night and my printer would turn on, not print and the power light would flash on and off. This printer was being shared with 2 other computer, but only as a backup. It is the default printer for my computer.

I have tried uninstalled and reinstalling drivers. Unplugging the printer from everything after I turned my computer off. I then let it sit for a minute, plugged the printer and its power back in and turned the computer on and still nothing. Any suggestions why my printer would be doing this?

Did you Delete it from the System before you reinstalled the drivers? If not, try that . You'll have to Delete it from the other comps too in order for the Share to work again.

Yes, I have tried that over and over. I have deleted the printer from all computers and tried the fresh install. The printers LED light still blinks on and off like it would with a paper jam or out of paper, but it is neither of those.

Nothing will print out on the printer, via any computer.

Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far... I am completely stumped here.

according to the manual here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00043974.pdf
if the light is flashing but not printing then it could be paper jam. Or check the status of the printer via the prvided software?

Nope, no paper jam already checked that. I also noticed it said a problem with a print cartridge. That could be the problem. I guess I could install the HP software, but I never use it. I just install the drivers for the printer and that is it. HP just kind of bloats the computer with useless tools, that is in my opinion.

I'm embarrassed to ask this question but I ran into this with a customer a while back. He had just replaced the ink cartridge and the printer quit working. Turns our he bought the wrong one. That's not your problem is it A-K?

yeah i know what you mean, but for me having a hp 2110 (all in one) i installed the software then removed it from startup, and run it when i need it.

also depend ing on how much the ink cartiges cost, you could get a whole new printer (with two ink cartiges) i used to do that, $50 ink finishes, buy a new printer for $100 and get two free cartiges. worked out well till i gothte all in one.

LOL PR! Hehehe, no that isnt the problem. This is a brand new printer. I have barely used it nontheless had to replace the ink cartridges...

I think I will go ahead and delete the printer drivers again from the hard drive and then install the software on the CD and see what happens. I am absolutely stumped on this.

New thought. Most printers require a certain sequence for installation. Most of us connect the hardware and then respond to the Found New Hardware screen. With printers you need to install the software/drivers BEFORE you connect the printer. At some point in the installation it tells you to connect the printer.

I didn't see if you had run the diagnostics page or not, so if you have, I apologize. But if you haven't, turn the printer on, then hold down the power button, open and close the lid 4 times, and release the power button. If you have the same 3650 I have (which isn't working for me either), it wasn't exactly designed all that well, since the power button fits through a hole in the lid. You may actually have to open the lid, then stick something in the sensor to make it think it's closed (middle of the left side, look for the tab on the lid that activates it). Then just release and press down on that 4 times to make it think the lid is opening and closing.

That should show if the problem is the printer, or if it's between the printer and the computer.

Not to be insulting, but did you take the tape off? Did the cartridge audibly snap into place?

It is fairly common for ink cartridges to just, out of the blue, refuse to be recognised by the printer or the software. Try known good cartridges if possible. Otherwise, remove each cartridge leaving the other one installed and try to print in 'ink backup mode'.

Some things to consider:
- Is there any kind of error message on your computer?
- Have you recently installed or enabled a firewall?
- Was there an antivirus running when you installed?
- Does your computer detect the change if you swap the usb cable over to another usb port?
- Is the print spooler service started? All dependent services as well?
- Are there any other printers installed that could conflict with the driver?
- Have you done a recent spyware scan?
- Did you try physically installing on another computer? (Direct usb connection, not just over the network.)

If it's a hardware issue, exchange/return it. There's not very many parts worth replacing on most ink jets.

I have tried reinstalling the HP printer software that came with my printer and it just locks up after it has detected my printer. This means I cannot run any sort of diagnostic to figure out the exact problem that I am having. I do not believe I am out of ink in my cartridges since I have not printed much with this printer at all.

No there is not.

Antivirus and firewall has been installed for a long time. I run PC-Cillin on all my computers.

Yes.

My printer downstairs is shared and shows up in my Printers and Faxes menu. I have already uninstalled it and then tried to reinstall my printer with but only to come to the same result.

I scan and update my SpyBot and AdAware programs quite regularly.

Same problem. Even unplugging the power and then plugging back in my printer LED still flashes.

New thought? Buy a new printer and go for the printer, copier, fax and scanner route possibly, unless we can figure this mystery out.

Thanks all... Anymore suggestions let me know!

Ok.... Finally got my printer to work. After all the trouble and mess and whatever. I decided to go out and get (2) brand new cartridges and replace the other ones. Fixed it............................... For some reason that was the problem, but I wasnt out of ink, at least I thought. Could have been out of one color as SkariMari pointed out in an earlier post. Oh well! Figured I could close out this thread by stating that I fixed my problem. Thanks for the help!
