DVD burning failing... experts needed
I just bought a Pioneer internal DVD burner http://shop4.outpost.com/product/434...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
and a 50 pack of TDK 16x DVD+R's. I was able to burn one full 4 gig data dvd the first day I bought it, now a week later burning data dvd's fail. I have tried different speeds from (12x-4x) and different file sizes (4 gigs to 2) and I still get failed data dvd's. Here is the short and simple summary of Nero's error Caching of files starting Caching of files completed Burn process started at 12x Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-109 Communication failure Burn process failed at 12x Here is the advanced log error http://rapidshare.de/files/4960252/Log.txt.html Here are my Computer, which I bought in 2000, Specs: Intel Pent III 800MHz 256mb RAM Windows XP Pro Ver. 2002 Service Pack 1 40 gig partitioned HD (1 drive has 4 gigs left the other has 9) 200 gig Seagate HD Plug and Play Monitor on Intel(r) 82810E Graphics Controller My computer's front cover is removed because the drive would not open with it on. Also I am able to burn full CD's (at 32x) successfully. I would really appreciate any help. |

your machine is a bit slow for 16x or 12x burning; more RAM is needed, along with more empty space in the primary partition.( more than 5GB at least)

*update*
I have connected and reconnected the drive, installed Service Pack 2, installed missing system apis(whatever they are called), freed 40 gigs of harddrive space, and still it doesn't work and I get the same error. Now I have tried to install the firmware update http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...803965,00.html DVRA09XL_FW158.exe However not even this works. I get this error, "failed to update kernal part" then the program terminates. I am going to call pioneer and see what help I can get, else I will just return it. If anyone else ahs any ideas, please help. *Also I have 512 ram installed on my computer however for some reason it shows 256...if anyone can help me there that would be awesome* |

did you have a dvd burner in this pc before...?
I would suspect if you did not the above mentioned holds true....Your pc maybe a bit slow to burn at 12x's or 16x's.... The speed of the hard drive needs to be as fast or faster than the ide interface of the rom drive....IE...if the harddrive is a ATA33 and the rom drive is a ATA133 the rom drive will try to collect data faster than the hardrive can send it..producing and underrun...but.... since you mention a "comunication error" I suspect a faulty cable....
