Hard Drive Failure Again...Bad Luck, or Serious Problems?
I had another hard drive go out on me. It started a while back when some files changed from SomethingReadable.exe to *^(FSD*F&(SDF. After running scan disk, it converted all messed up folders to files, and then I could delete them. This time, things crapped out and when I went to restart my computer and run scan disk, Windows wasn't found and it couldn't do anything. I plugged in another hard drive to see if I could save any files, and it shows all the files that weren't corrupt. I managed to save 6 files, the rest seem to be gone.
1) Is there any way to get those files back? 2) Is there something wrong with my computer that causes this to happen, or did I just hit a series of bad drives? |

What hard drives and operating system are you using?

A Maxtor 200GB IDE was the hard drive that just failed, and I am using Windows XP Pro.

How do you run Scan disk on XP? I thought XP only had Check Disk (chkdsk).
Have you tested the drive with Maxtor's diagnostic software? What was the first drive that failed? |
