Problem With Cdrw-dvd Combo Drive

I have a combo drive. My XP Pro system can see it on the Device Manager with no errors. Windows Explorer sees the drive but I just cannot get it to read any type of media I place in it. It keeps telling me to insert a disc into the drive.

Can nayone tell me whether it is a:

1. Drive problem, or
2. Controller problem, or
3. Cable problem, or
4. Motherboard problem, or
5. Connection problem.

It had been working for the last year or so and this happen all of a sudden.

System is a PC with XP Pro OS.

In anticipation of the replies, thanks for all the help.

Regards.

If it has been working, then I suspect the parts the drive uses to read the disks has failed, is it still under warranty?
