Will a 3rd party HD work in a Dell?
I have an old Dell pc and I need to replace the HD. Can I use a 3rd party HD like Maxtor? And would it be compatable with the software that came with the Dell?

yea, i really dont see what conflict there would be..unless uer motherboard doesnt support SATA (serial ATA) and u buy a SATA HDD. Make sure u buy a retail one with some warranty. And also this new HDD will not have an operating system so if u dont have like WIND XP disk u will need to buy it, or u could map the old drive and put on the new HDD...but anways these were just some ideas and suggestions.

What software that came with the dell? if you are replacing and doing a fresh OS install you wont have any software on the computer other than the OS, and if you already have an OS on the new hdd then you need to do a repair install so it configures to the new hardware. Preferable use the install disk for Windows that came with your dell, that will be the best option.

Any hard drive will work in a Dell as long as it's not larger than the bios capacity. The bios limit depends on how old the computer is.
