good old prescott
hey guys i have a 2.8 prescott and got it running nicely at just over 3.1 (223fsb). Now haven't bothered changing the voltage due to my problem. I know that prescott run hot but i have it at 39C at idle which i think is ok however when the system runs prime95 it goes up to 58C. Now is a 20C change typical between idle and load cause it's stopping me from pushing it any more. By the way i've got a zalman Alcu 7000. I have looked at the gigabyte g-power heatsink as it's had some good reviews in a couple of mags as a replacement, would it be worth it??
Second thing is that i actually have pc4000 ram, and it's a shame it's underclocked so what do i need to change to use it fully. I know intel chips like running 1-1 with memory and cpu so would it be worth it. My Mobo is a Asus P4P800-E Deluxe. |

58c is ok for a prescott really, just don't let it go above 65/70... as soon as it begins to throttle you've hit the temperature limit

I wouldn't worry too much about the temps of your P4, it has a saftey throttling built in so when it reaches 83, I think it is, it will slow the cpu speed to reduce heat. I had my 3.2 @ 3.77 running prime95 at 60-63 degrees average with no problems.
It is better to keep things as cool as possible, but with a prescott you have a little more head room.
