Angry GeForce2 MX200 vid card problems....

Hey all,

Celeron 500
QDI BrillianX 9 MObo with Intel 440BX Chipset
GeForce2MX200 vid card 32 meg (duh)
Win 98 SE
128 meg RAM

Got a geforce2 mx 200 the other day. Since then, life has been hell. Here's the situation. Upon installation, everything looked fine. But about 20 second's into any 3d game, she folds like a cheap hooker being hit in the stomach with a baseball bat. Nothing can be done but reset. Okay, so I go into the BIOS, change the AGP aperture down to 4 from 64 (16 is as high as I can set it without it freezing) but I pretty much have lost my framerate in games. I can set the AGP aperture at 16 without freezing, but I didn't pay for a new card to get framerates of 8 p/s. Changing my refresh rate for the monitor doesn't fix the problem. Also, the most recent drivers are installed for the card. There isn't any old driver files from the previous card, because this was a fresh OS install as well. QDI's site doesn't seem to have any AGP driver updates, so once again I had hit a wall. But I'm gonna keep looking for drivers for AGP. If anyone can help, even a site where I can find AGP drivers, or anything, it will be greatly appreciated.

Look in device manager... is the video card conflicting with anything?

What version of the drivers are you using?

Also... are they card specific drivers or NVidia reference drivers?

they are version 12.41 reference drivers from Nvidia. The drivers that came with, weren't being picked up by Windows.

The 6.50 reference drivers are recognized as the most "adaptive" drivers available. Maybe you could try them?

thanx, yes,i had heard that the 6.5 were the best drivers, but hadn't came to try that yet. I'll give it a try. I'll keep looking for the agp drivers as well. And if anyone else can think of a site with drivers for my mobo, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Thanx for the link, however, that did not seem to solve my problems (though it was good to update everything like that). Also, going back to ver 6.5 driver for this card didn't work either. Keep the suggestions coming.

You indicate that you are not showing any *conflicts* but, is the video card sharing its IRQ with anything except a steering holder? If so, you need to sort this out - high performance video cards don't share IRQ nicely at all. Note that PCI slot 1 (next to the AGP slot) shares its IRQ with the AGP, so if you have a card in there, move it.

I just checked to see if any irq's were being shared, and they are not (except for the pci steering thing). Thanx for the suggestion though, I had forgot about that.
