webcam help

Heya, im new to the board and not sure if this goes here but anyway my problem is im tryin to install all my software back onto my computer because i recently installed windoes 98 back onto my comp after a disturbed registry stopped me from booting up but i didnt format the hard drive so when i loaded 98 back on..all my stuff was where id left it. Before i had to reinstall windows, i had a webcam installed, a scanner and a printer. Ive reinstalled the software for the webcam but everytime i try to start the webcam it says 'sorry but u have no video capture hardware' yet the cam is plugged in and was working fine b4 i had to reinstall windows? Ive uninstalled the software and reinstaleld it so its not a software proble..but a hardware problem. Ive tried to search for plug and play devices but it cant detect any? even though all 3 devides are plugged in? and then when going to control panel, system, device manager, ports...I get communications port (com1), communications port (com2) and printer port and it says they are all working fine. My webcam is on a usb port btw, so im thinking my BIOS settings have been changed, ive gone into them and tried to look for 'disabled' under USB but cant find anything? What do i go into and look for and change? or could it be something else? Any help is appreciated. Thankyou x

The one thing you may have lost is all your windows updates which may have had something in there for usb..

I could not be sure, it was just a suggestion, check your device manager to be sure..

Well my device manager under ports says i have:
I get communications port (com1), communications port (com2) and printer port and it says they are all working fine.
but under USB...well that option isnt even available, i know on some pcs there is another option seperate from ports labelled USB and mine isnt even showing up?! Yet before I re-installed, i had no problems with my usb or hardware being picked up.

Well thats your first step is to get usb ports working. Is it win98 first edition or second edition??

Probably should be drivers on the disk that came with your PC or your motherboard, or as I suggested earlier redo all the windows updates, cause I know you do loose those when you reinstall windows..

Hmmm!! Actually sounds like your usb has been disabled in your BIOS cause you should see something in the device manager, maybe an unknown device but I think something should at least show up there...

hmm i'm even more confused now...because when i go into device manager there is no USB option making me think its being disabled in BIOS but when i go to add new hardware it searched for plug and play but only comes up with audio adapter which is my sound and not my webcam, then it says do u want windows to seach for new hardware (ive done this and it came back with nothing) so then i click 'no, i want to select hardware from the list'.
It says select the type of hardware you want to install..gives a list such as scannercontrollers ect and at the bottom is universal serial bus controller! so im even more confused now

That is just windows default, so you must have win98 se, go into your BIOS and check it for USB enabled...
