Worth it to upgrade motherboard for one that supports DDR2?

Right now I have this intel MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121259 it is not the best but it has what I need (4 Sata, PCI express) and I really don’t have a desire to upgrade it except to get a board that has DDR2 RAM support. Is DDR2 really that much better? For example would a gig of DDR2 be better than 2 gigs of DDR? The only other reason I would have for upgrading this MB would be so I could OC my processor, but that is not a necessity. The other thing is that DDR2 RAM is much more expensive, so is the worth my money/time?

No need to upgrade. Latency-wise, DDR is more efficient at the same RAM speed than DDR2. You would need to go DDR2 in case you have a 925X or above chipset.

Thanks again for the help Kram, so basically I would not see nearly enough (if any) of a difference to warrant the upgrade. I think a MB upgrade is something I will do sometime down the road. For now I will just get a gig and half of quality DDR ram.

If you find the need for more speed, more RAM is probably the more prudent path. I'm speaking without actually looking at your sys specs - it may end up that a gig and a half will do very little in terms of speed increase, however.
