Recovering data from deleted partition

Ok. I was reinstalling my laptop and so had backed everything up to an external harddrive. But when I then went to delete the partition on the laptop my external harddrive was still attached and I accidently deleted that too (not very clever I'll admit ) I have not reformatted this disk at all and so, as I understand it, the actual data is still on the disk. So is there a way for me to access this data and recover it?

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

David Saunders

Haven't used this but I've seen it recommended here.

Also remove the external untill you are ready to try the recovery, that will keep any activity on it from overwriting anything.

The informatioon should still be on your drive but the partition table in the mbr has been changed by your delete operation. As long as nothing is written to the disk, you should be able to access all the data by restoring the partition table to its prior state. There are commercial tools to do this; I believe PM and acronis disk director have such utilities. Here's another such utility:

There may be some free ones out there too.
