Hard Disk problem... maybe related to Motherboard
Hello There, well I have the following problem.
I currently own a ECS P4S5MG/GL+ Mainboard which HDD maximum capacity is 250 GB. Well, I have recently bought a Maxtor 250 GB HDD. The 1st singnal that something was wrong was when i went to the BIOS Setup, and when we press F3 for it to recognize the currently hardware instead of showing "USER" in the primary Master screen it shows "AUTO" even after pressing F3. Anyways, I tried using FDISK to create a logical unit so I could format the HDD Drive with FAT32 as I always do, but when it checks for the disk integrity it just doesn't pass the 0%. I noticed something was wrong. I also tried formatting using the XP boot disk but it recognizes my HDD as a 10gb Hard Drive which is complete bogus. So I took the Hard Drive to the local store which I bought it from, and they formatted it in their computers, so it's not and HDD Problem. The only thing I can think of is an incompatiblity between the motherboard and the Hard Drive. As I said the motherboard's HDD maximum capacity is 250GB so it shouldn't be a problem, but it's the only thing I can think of. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? Any help would be really appreciated. |

Does the motherboard BIOS properly see all 250GB? If not, it does indeed sound like a motherboard problem. Sounds like the motherboard BIOS is incorrectly registering all capacity through the motherboard chipset, hence telling XP that it's 10GB and not 250GB. ECS is a pretty bottom of the barrel brand and would be the first thing I'd suspect as the culprit.

It shows indeed the 250 gb info on the bios screen, but it shows "Auto" instead of the usual "User" on the primary master line, and it doesn't show the rest of the HDD Settings on the bios screen as it normal does. I also suspect of a Mother Board problem. Do you think it's possible to format the HD elsewhere and then use it with this motherboard I have, or my last resort is buying a new one?
