Can't update bios and now PC won't start

Hi All,

I need your help again.
I have a A8V deluxe mobo currently running realese 1008 of it's BIOS, one downfall of this version was that is was picky about Dram and wouldn't run with 2 or more sticks of memory, the ASUS website and people on here said that flashing the bios would solve this problem.

now my mobo has 3 methods of flashing the bios.
1. flashing from within windows
2. EZ flash which u hit ALT-F2 on bootup with a floppy in drive and
3. using AFUDOS on a floopy with a copy of the new bios.

option 1 couldn't find a new bios on the server to update.
option 2 seemed to flash the bios and I got all the right indicators that everything has compleated successfully but now upon booting it says something about bad checksums and sends me to the screen asking how I want to start windows (safe mode, last known good configuration, etc...) selecting any options then re boots my computer and takes me back to the same screen, same options with same result. reboot.

only option left is 3, but as my PC does not now start I cannot get the bios downloaded. can't use work PC as there is no CD of FD to copy files to,

can any one suggest where I may have gone wrong or if there is anything I can do? (even the bios on the set up CD won't work........have I knackered the bios chip? and if yes, How?)

Thanks as always

Matt

Sounds like you should be able to access the BIOS. I would go in and reset it to defaults. I had that happen the last time I flashed mine and there was simply a setting that got changed which was keeping windows from starting up. Otherwise clear the cmos with the clear cmos jumper on the motherboard, if you can not access the BIOS, it does not sound like it is completely hosed, just needs reset.

Here's what I do when flashing within windows. Go to the Asus site and find the new bios. Download it to your desktop. Unzip it and drag the bios file to your desk top. Now open the Asus flash program and instead of selecting upgrade from Asus, select the option that allows you to update from a file. Point it to the file that you dragged to the desktop and Voila! I'd also suggest that you shut down all running programs before you flash the bios. I've done several this way and have had 0 problems.

Use the jumper to clear the cmos first. Then power it up, immediately go into setup and load defaults. Save and exit, power it off before it starts loading Windows (you may need to hold the power button in for 5 seconds), wait 30 seconds, power it back on, go back into setup and set it the way it needs to be.

If this doesn't work, contact these guys:
