Of controllers
i am building a new comp for the 1st time and it hit me - what are HDD, video, etc... controllers? do i need them and how do i install them?

Most controllers will be part of the motherboard so you really don't have to worry about them.
The only time you may need to install a controller card is if you want to use something that isn't native to the motherboard...like FireWire or SCSI.  Cricket
