Question dismount hdd-do you know how?

i have a restore program that effectively hides a partition(B:) of my drive from windows(C:). The program has been screwing up and i have been able to get to B:\ by typing it in explorer, although when i go to my computer it doesn't show up. Well, because i could access the hidden partition i partially fixed it, and the partition was hidden again on the next reboot(now says path is invalid), but i want to get to the hard drive, im thinking if i dismount partition B:\ and then remount it, it might shake the restore software off. The restore software is an OS in itself and then it loads XP. Um, I don't know if you can just dismount a particular partition, or do you have to dismount the entire drive? Also, i would try using knoppix to acces it but i found out a long time ago it doesn't work on this computer because, i think, the hdd is SATA.

Any Ideas on if this is a good idea, the only thing i know about mounting an hdd is that you must do it in linux or unix to access it, and its automatically done for you in windows, if i understand correctly, if you don't mount your hdd, its equivalent to leaving it unpluged. It just occured to me that maybe i can't get to B:\ because the restore program hides it from windows and windows can't mount it?

Also, i don't want to screw up this comp.

Does the help file or web site of the backup software have any info on this? What is the name of the BU software?

Is saving the backup data important?
