Hdd hardware ques.

What type of hardware maintanance cn be performed on a hdd? Does hdd manufacture diagonistic software detect hardware problems? Cn I hav my hdd fixed if there is a hardware problem? Thnx

It's good to run hard drive diagnostics on it from time to time that will test the stamina of the actuator head motor, make sure the spindle motor is spinning at the correct RPM. Basically checks the whole operation of the hard drive. It will also do a random read to make sure the read/write heads are reading correctly.

No. If it's physically damaged, it is possible for it to be fixed but buying a replacement is cheaper than a complete repair. If the hard drive is physically damaged that you cannot read data from it, then you're out of luck unless you have $1000+ to spend. If it's virtually damaged (Operating System errors) like bad clusters, damaged files etc, yes it can be fixed.
