registry errors

My friend gave me his old hard drive and i installed it on my computer yesterday. i installed windows xp and after i installed all my old software onto it, it started giving me pop ups about registry errors.


now my computer is running slower than ususal. can i get some help please?

There's nothing wrong with your registry. These are annoying popups you receive if your are running messenger.

Make sure your firewall is enabled. Then open control panel, administrative tools. Select Services, scroll till you find Messenger. Open it, stop the service, then change startup to Disabled. Follow up with a thorough virus and spyware scan with reputable tools/software, ESPECIALLY if you visited any sites mentioned in the popups. Then install Service Pack 2 and all critical updates from Windows Update.
