Sonata II and AMD cool & quiet
Hi:
I have a sonata II case, AMD 64 3200+ venus, asus A8N-E, antec tri cool 120mm fan at the rear set on medium, and a 120mm nexus fan in the front. I'm confused about how to set everything up for the quietest and coolest operation. I don't have the fan monitor from the power supply wire connected, but I do have the AMD quiet and cool running. I have the back Antec fan set to medium. I think most of the noise is coming from the fan on the cpu and video card and back fan. I am using just the stock coolers for the cpu and video card (EVGA 6600GT 128). Does anyone have any suggestions for improving the noise? I think that the cooling is just fine, I don't overclock. Thanks. |

If you want to make the CPU and video card fans quieter you'll most likely need to buy aftermarket cooler to replace them, which are designed to run quietly.

If you are using the Antec fan controller, you want any fans it is controlling to be set on high. Otherwise they might not get enough voltage to start/run properly. edit oops make that the amd fan controller.

CPU http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103535 MOTHERBOARD http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131530 VIDEO http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130214 If fans, should I use a fan controller on those plus the two case fans?? Thanks a lot. |

You really don't need to replace the cooling on those. However, for CPU and GPU cooling, look at Thermaltake, Thermalright, or Zalman. You really won't need anything different on the mobo. I've got a small heatsink and fan on mine, and I'll be honest the fan does nothing but make noise. I notice at most, a 1C increase in northbridge temp, and still plenty cool.
A fan controller wouldn't be a bad idea if you have noisy case fans, and want to chalk down the noise when not gaming.
