HI,
I have an eighteen month boy who has recently learned how to use the on off switch on my computer and I am trying to figure out away that I can turn on off my computer without using this switch. I noticed in the CMSO settings that there is a setting for powering up the computer using a hot key combination. I own a Biostar M7NCD motherboard with Awards Bios version apm1.2 and I am trying to use the hot key option for powering on my computer under the "integrated peripherals" settings and I think have changed everything correctly but when I try to restart the computer with the keyboard nothing happens. I am wondering if there is something else that I am missing. Thanks

The keyboard power on support needs a hardware jumper setting on the mobo.
Check out your mobo manual (or here's the PDF version: ftp://ftp.biostar-usa.com/manuals/M7NCD/M7NCDmanual.pdf) . You need to have your mobo's JKBV1 jumper closed on 2-3 (see page 9). Location of the JKBV1 is shown on (page 1) its on the top left corner of the mobo. |

That isn't going to solve the toddler hitting the switch problem though because it does not disable the regular power switch, but just gives U another way to turn on the PC, so you don't have to bend all the way down there and push the button manually..

I would suggest moving the case to the top of the desk but little kids climb things.
Do you have a local computer shop that does case mods? A little rewiring could be your answer. If the button no longer does anything he'll lose interest in it. Just make sure the alternative is out of reach (and preferably out of sight).

I would just disconnect the switch on the front and add a small momentary toggle switch on the back. Remember when computers had switches on the back?...do you suppose the guys who designed 386 computers had little kids at home? Just wait till he starts placing graham crackers in the optical drives.

Cover the power button in aluminum foil and wire a little current to flow through it, one zap and I doubt he'll touch it again
No j/k dont do that, this power on hotkey thing is interesting tho, I hate bending down and pushing the power button, post back if you get it working. Wow im lazy lately.
