1000 mHz FSB Question
I just need a quick confirmation that I'm thinking about this correctly.
Based on my previous thead and the help I recieved there I'm getting all set to order a new MB/CPU/RAM setup. I'm planning on getting a AMD 64 3000+ processor (1000mHz FSB) and a asus A8V mobo (also 1000mHz FSB). The mobo is rated for PC3200 (DDR400) dual channel ram. According to what I read in the handy RAM faq sticky thread this would theoretically at 800mHz FSB. From what I remember from when I built this PC originally, you want to match your processor and memory FSB at their maximums to have no bottle necks. My question is this: Wouldn't I need to run DC PC4000 (DDR500) RAM to really use the 1000mHz (2x500) FSB function of the processor and board? If so, why doesn't asus support PC4000 on this board. Is there some reason other than FSB for them to do this? If getting PC4000 will help optimize the system, is there a quality board out there that will let me? |

I might be wrong, but I don't think your FSB:RAM divider will be 1:1. It would be like 5:4, I think. So it would be like 500MHz:400MHz, doesn't necessarily have to be synchrounous.

No....the fsb of the cpu is still only 200mhz....
It is double pumped as is the ram 200x's 2=400 THE cphas Hypertransport and that is multiplied x's 5 200 x's 5 = 1000 ddr3200 is what you want....

Crucial offers DDR500 ram for that Mobo. In the Ballistix series.
BTW, The Ram needs to be installed with matched pairs. Chris |
