Sony DRU-710A wont recognize any discs?

i have installed a dru-710, windows xp corperate, windows recognizes it have the latest firmware and it wont recognize any dvds or cds cant do nothing with it just keeps spinning

Hi KennyB30,

Welcome to PC Mechanic !!

Did you add this as a second drive? Did you set the jumper to Slave if so? Or, if you set it up on it's own channel, did you set it to Master? Is the cable secure at both, or all three ends?

everything secure windows recognizes it as a sony dru-710 r/rw dvd drive just wont recognize any discs set to master on ide 2

Have you tried another cable? Is that the only drive on channel 2? Can you pop the drive into a friends machine?

I have three Sony drives (CRX320A, DRU510A, DRU720A) and if you update the firmware with DMA enabled the drive wont work right, you need to enable PIO then install the firmware again.
