Anonymous user question.
Someone e-mailed me this problem. I figured I'd let you peripheral savvy people take a knock at it.

That was probably the winsock 2 update. There should be a folder somewhere called "ws2bckup" - I dont remember if it's under the root, program files, or windows - but there is a restore in there that you can get at in safe mode.
If they need to play a game that requires winsock 2, it would be best to upgrade to Win 98 if the computer has the horsepower to run it. |

Okay - look in your control panel - add/remove programs, and see if there is a listing for "winsock 2 update". If so, just uninstall it from there.

Okay - is there an entry in add/remove programs that says "Restore Winsock 1.1"? If so - do that.

Boot into safe mode, go into control panel, add/remove programs, Windows Setup, communications. Uncheck "dialup networking". Do not restart the computer yet. Then stay in control panel and open Networks, remove ALL components. Restart the computer and it *should* work. Then you can reinstall what you need to get it back on line.
