Dual Channel Memory
For a while now I've had 1GB of RAM but with an unorthodox configuration, which is 2x 256mb Kingston HyperX PC4000 (sold as a 2x256mb kit) and 512mb stick of some cheapo RAM. It works at 200mhz & 2.5-3-3-6 and obviously not in dual channel mode.
The reason it is like this is because when I first built the computer, I saved money in several areas, including the RAM, so I could afford the CPU (I was on quite a tight budget for a gaming PC). So I had 512mb of the cheapest RAM I could find. I decided to upgrade this after a while to 512mb of Kingston RAM which worked at 250mhz, dual channel...etc (ie. Better). So I had the old 512mb stick lying around. So after a while I decided to put the 512mb stick back in to get 1GB. Anyway, I decided to upgrade again, but I need to know if this config will work in dual channel: Channel 1: Slot #1: 256mb Kingston HyperX PC4000 Slot #2: 256mb Kingston HyperX PC4000 Channel 2: Slot #3: 256mb PQI PC4000 DDR TurboMemory Slot #4: 256mb PQI PC4000 DDR TurboMemory The PQI memory is sold as a dual channel kit: http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...93&GroupID=465 Info on Kingston RAM: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX4000K2_512.pdf Thanks for reading all that! Any help appreciated, thanks. |

Check your manual. I downloaded one to double check and your DC memory configuration is the same as my Asus board. Slots 1 & 3 need to match as do Slots 2 & 4. PQI isn't listed on their accepted vendor list for memory but that simply means it hasn't been tested.

Ok so does that mean that I should put the Kingston Slots 1 & 3 and PQI in 2 & 4?

I was pondering between getting an extra 1GB stick of RAM to make 2GB (making an even odder setup) or getting the PQI and upgrading to 1GB of PC4000. Anyway I think i'll go with the PQI.
Thanks for the help!! |
