Problem with my external Creative modem

Good Afternoon,

My internet service recently went about the changes in their phone lines and now my Creative Modemblaster v.90 DE5625 will only connect on rare occassions. I've updated the drivers from Creative's site but this still doesn't work.

The tech help at my internet service is trying to track down any updated firmware for this modem. His theory is that the software running on the chipset itself may simply need to be updated and my only feeling on the matter is "why not?".

Creative's website, especially for the Americas, leaves much to be desired. They at least admit on their website that they don't have much of anything to offer but this was an expensive modem and I'm not about to change. Does anyone know of an updated firmware for this modem?

Thanks,

Can't find any firmware - just an updated driver at Creative's modem subsidiary site. Have you tried that? What are the settings on the com port the modem is connected to? They should be 115200, 8, none, 1, hardware.

If you can tell us what is going on - and please be detailed and specific - we might have some ideas for you to try. Run the modem diags and paste the ATI responses in here - what was your indicated connect speed prior to the "upgrade" - what is it now when you CAN connect? Has the tech had you put anything in "extra settings" and if so, what, and what were the results?

I would dial some other ISP's to see if the issue is only with your ISP. If connects are ok elsewhere, and you're able to use other ISP's with local access, and desire to do so, fire 'em and get another. The link below has a section Hyperterminal with another link to find some #'s to dial. Ignore the parts about ati6, ati11 and aty11. I presume you're having trouble even getting connected, right? This simple test will rule out other factors.
