RAM Upgrade

Hey guys,

i currently have 512MB of RAM in the form of 2x256MB sticks, but i want to upgrade to at least 1GB. am i correct in syaing that it's better to get 2 sticks and have them in dual channel than to have one module of twice the size?

as i said i want to upgrade to at least 1gig, but if i get another 2x256 modules that puts me in a bit of a poor position for upgrading beyond that in the future. So my thought was that i should get 2x512 modules, and have them in dual channel, if i do this should i leave the other modules in, or would that somehow make the system slower? i know that i would have to put my existing modules in the secondary slots.

With that motherboard as long as you have two matched pairs of RAM, all the sticks will be running in Dual Channel DDR mode. So if you add another 2x256MB sticks to your existing 2x256MB sticks you'll have 1GB of RAM running in Dual Channel DDR mode.

Yes, you can have a pair of 256's and a pair of 512's for a total of 1.5. Just make sure you put the new ram in the other 2 slots to keep it in dual channel.
