Question Quick Memory Question

I have a new computer on the way with the following memory installed:

256MB Single Channel DDR PC-3200 at 400MHz - 1 x 256MB

My old computer has 512mb of Mushkin Enhanced 3200 (990992).

Can I put the two together without any conflicts? Also, can someone reccomend some software that will tell me more about my memory than what I can read on the outside of the blue shielding on the Mushkin.

Thanks for the help,

Adrianse

No brand name and model on the new motherboard, or is this a proprietary machine?

The ram should work, but no guarantees.

It's an alienware, I didn't want to get into any alienware discussions so I left it out.

Alienwares use name brand generic motherboards, so the Mushkin should work. It's not going to run in dual channel mode and you only have a 533 FSB processor, so it will not really be a high performance machine.

So, lets say I sell the enhanced mushkin, what would you reccomend I buy to add to the machine, a gig of the same thing it came with.

Thanks

To do dual channel, you must use matched pairs of modules. You should have ordered the machine that way, and you should have ordered a 800 FSB processor.
